Mervennie “Merk” Essex Booth peacefully transitioned from labor to rest on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at South Central Medical Center in Laurel, Mississippi. Surrounded by the love of her devoted family, Mervennie gracefully entered into eternal peace after a life well-lived. Affectionately known as “Merk,” she was a native of New Orleans, LA, and throughout her years, she embodied strength, grace, and unwavering faith. Born on December 13, 1956, Mervennie was the cherished daughter of the late Mary Alice Wright Essex-Webb and one of five siblings. She grew up in a Christian home and accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. Her life was a testament to resilience, and compassion. Though our hearts may ache in her absence, we find peace knowing she rests in the Master’s care, reunited with her beloved family in that beautiful garden of prayer. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew her. In addition to her mother, she is also preceded in death by; her son: Lavon Booth. Her siblings: Gladys B. Marsh, Harry and Soloman Essex. Bonus father: Soloman Webb. And grandson: Steve Booth. She leaves behind a legacy of love in the lives of those who survive her: her husband, Isaac Booth, Sr. of Collins, MS.; her loving daughter, Santresha Booth of Laurel, MS.; her loving sons, Keith Essex of Laurel, MS. and Isaac Booth, Jr. of Hattiesburg, MS.; and her devoted sister, Joyce Porter of New Orleans. She also leaves behind her 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, each a testament to the enduring legacy of the family she cherished. Her godchildren, Amiri Studyviant, Deonne Studyviant-Mercadel, and Levell Marsh, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. A Homegoing Celebration for Mervennie “Merk” Essex Booth will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Greater New St. Luke Baptist Church, 2201 Montegut St., New Orleans, LA 70117.
