Mattie Angilee Bean Summers was born on March 26,1939 in Greensburg, LA to the late Claude Jethro Bean and Mattie Morgan Bean Montgomery. She peacefully took her last breath in her home on the evening of Monday, July 1, 2024. She accepted Christ at an early age. In 1956 she graduated from Greenville Park High School in Hammond Louisiana. After high school she moved to New Orleans to live with her Uncle Clyde Bean and his wife Juanita to attend college. She received a bachelor’s degree in social work from Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO) School of Social Work. Years later she received her master’s degree in social work from SUNO. She worked her entire career as a social worker for the City of New Orleans where she retired. During that time, she also worked as a counselor and home health adviser. She married Granville Summers, Sr. on December 19,1959. She was widowed on April 27,1972. She was the mother of Granville Summers, Jr. and Glenn Dale Summers affectionately known as Mattie Boys. After moving to New Orleans, she joined St. Luke AME Church where she served as Missionary President and Stewardess for many years. She also provided members of the community with the resources that she obtained as a social worker. She leaves to celebrate her life her sons Granville Summers, Jr. and Glenn Dale Summers and her granddaughter Caitlyn Dominique Summers. Also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers, Ralph Ard, Raymond Thomas, and Claude Joseph Bean. Relatives and friends, also pastor, officers and members of St. Luke A.M.E. Church are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, July 12, 2024, at St. Luke A.M.E. Church, 2500 Louisa Street beginning 10 a.m. Rev. Gerald Nettles Jr. pastor officiating. Church visitation 9 a.m. until service time. Interment Resthaven Memorial Park. Professional Services Entrusted to: Littlejohn Funeral Home, 2163 Aubry Street, Cal K.
