Lee Earnest Mays, Sr. was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 17, 2026. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his devoted and dedicated wife, Emelia; two sons, Lee Earnest, Jr. and Earnest Lee Mays; bonus daughter, Emelia Angelique Wilfred; granddaughter, Myla Malani Mays; grandchildren, Derinisha J’quell Wilfred, Derrick Johnson, Jr. and Ronja’Naize Hill: one great grandson, Derrick Johnson III; his special bonus daughter, Mikeiona Sierra Carter (Myla’s mom); adoptive mother, Emma Butler; sisters Shirley Mays, Linda Burks (Lake Providence), and Mary Jones (Glenn) (Lake Providence); sister-in-law, Darlene L. Essex (Erick) (Colorado Springs); brother-in-law, Emile Lewis III; God-child, Darriyell Latrice Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, Church family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Mays; his mother, Reat Mays; one sister, Essie Railey and one brother Johnny Mays; father-in-law, Emile Lewis, Jr.; mother-in-law, Thelma Lewis; sister-in-law, Bernadette Washington; and brothers-in-law, Michael and Gabriel Lewis.

The Homegoing Celebration will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1807 Reverend John Raphael Jr. Way, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Jamaal Weathersby, officiant.
