With warm hearts we announce the passing of Kathy Ann Hagans, AKA Special K, who took her final breath on August 24, 2026, ``at the age of 66. Born and raised in New Orleans, LA Kathy is the daughter of Anne Washington and the late Raymond Washington. She grew up with her loving siblings Karen Riggins, Travis Washington, Donnie Washington, and Peter Washington.
In early childhood Kathy was baptized by her grandfather Rev. Henry. She graduated from George Washington Carver High School where she went to secretarial school. She married her first husband Ivan Alexander and proudly raised two beautiful children, Kithy (deceased) and Charity Alexander. Overtime, Kathy remarried Kenneth Hagans Sr. and welcomed three more children into this world.
Influenced by her grandfather who was a pastor, Kathy devoted herself to growing in her spirituality and servitude to God. She would read her Bible daily and always appeared happiest when she was singing her praises during church service. It set the foundation that she would ultimately depend on when she received the diagnosis that would change her life.
Living with multiple sclerosis came with its many heartbreaks and challenges, but like the true queen she was Kathy overcame adversity with a strength never before seen. Her unyielding faith in the Most High and unrelenting optimism carried her through to the end. Amongst her devotion, Kathy also had many passions. She couldn’t live without her morning cup of coffee; she enjoyed watching Andy Griffin and the Waltons; she loved to sing, and she delighted in her snack cravings (particularly iced oatmeal cookies and Cheetos). She was a woman of simple needs. Her enormous smile and infectious laugh had a way of filling a room, instantly making you feel at home. She was incredibly committed to her loved ones and left behind invaluable lessons that will continue to live on through us forever.
Kathy leaves behind to cherish her memory husband Kenneth Hagans Sr, her children; Kenneth Hagans Jr, Dominique Hagans, and Doreen Hagans; her mother, Anne Washington; 4 siblings: Karen Riggins (Robert), Travis Washington, Donnie Washington and Peter Washington; sister-in law: Dorothea Hagans; former husband and children: Ivan Alexander and Charity Alexander; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and family friends.
