Listen to Obituary

With profound sadness and heartfelt love, we announce the passing of Janice Cavalier, who departed this life on July 26, 2026, at the age of 71. Janice lived a life centered on love, family, and unwavering strength. She touched the lives of many through her kindness, resilience, and generous spirit, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished for generations.

Janice was the beloved daughter of the late Oscar Lymous and Vernice Dabon Lymous, both of whom preceded her in death. She was educated in the public school system, where she began building the foundation for the compassionate and determined woman she would become.

She was the former wife of Gerald Cavalier, with whom she shared three children. She was a devoted and loving mother to Shalanda Cavalier, Rashell Cavalier, and her beloved son, Gerald Cavalier, who preceded her in death. Her greatest joy was her family, and she poured her heart into raising her children and supporting them throughout their lives.

Janice was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren: Willanda Cavalier, Jermaine Cavalier, Eshan Cavalier, Jaquan Helton, Janae Cavalier, Chais Johnson, and Raine Thomas. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Shane Cavalier. She was also blessed with one treasured great-grandchild, June Helton, who brought immense joy to her life.

She is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Oscar Lymous (Anne), Vernice Lyons (Lawrence), Lloyd Lymous, Patricia Lymous McGruder (Kenneth), Gayle Lymous Francis (Stanley), Glenn Lymous (Jennifer), Donald Lymous (Felisa), and Carl Lymous (Joy). She was preceded in death by her brother Raymond Lymous (Pearl) and her sister-in-law, Barbara Lymous, the beloved wife of Lloyd Lymous.

Janice’s love extended far beyond her immediate family. She was a source of comfort, wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love to countless nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends. Her warm smile, caring heart, and unforgettable sense of humor will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Although our hearts are heavy with grief, we find peace in knowing that Janice’s legacy of love, compassion, and devotion to her family will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, siblings, extended family, and all whose lives she touched.

Janice will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
