Hooper, Sr. and Angela C. Hooper. He was the eldest of three children and a natural leader among his siblings. Herbert was affectionately known by his mother as "My Hooper" or "The Bishop," and his sisters, Alicia DeShields who called him “Herbie” and Jamie Hooper who called him “BS” (Best Sibling). He received his education through the New Orleans Area Schools and graduated from Warren Easton High School in 1998. As his Auntie Esther described him, “Herbert had a humble and gentle spirit.” He was also known for his intelligent and sharp mind, and his deep compassion for family and friends. He found joy in spending quality time with his loved ones. Herbert had many passions, including discussing the bible and news topics with his mother, having long conversations with his Grandma Mary, reading, playing tennis, and participating in political rallies to give a voice to the helpless and fight for equality. Herbert also cherished his daily phone calls with his immediate family members and staying connected. His faith in Jesus was his source of strength, and he especially enjoyed attending various churches in New Orleans and Atlanta, where he found comfort and inspiration. Herbert leaves to cherish his memory, his father Herbert G. Hooper, Sr. (Regina), his mother Angela C. Hooper, both of New Orleans. He is also survived by two sisters: Alicia DeShields (Brandon) of Chicago, Illinois; and Jamie Hooper of New Orleans.
