Florida Eigans Gaines

Florida Eigans Gaines, a lifelong resident of New Orleans, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the age of 87. She was born on April 20, 1939, to the late Joseph Eigans and Augusta Bailey Eigans. Florida was the beloved wife of the late Rev. Dr. Nathaniel J. Gaines; devoted mother of the late Darlene Gaines-Jones and the late Nathan Gaines; and sister of the late Naomi Eigans-Cox and Georgia Bailey. She is also survived by her children Barbara Gaines, Natalie Gaines-Gros, and Raymond Gaines, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives, and dear friends. A Celebration of Life service honoring Florida’s life will be held at Cypress Grove Baptist Church, 901 31st Street, Kenner, LA, on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the church. Host Pastor Rev. John E. Dillon, Jr. and Rev. Dr. Lee Wilson, Pastor of The Open Bible FCC, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery 70122.
