Calvin Smith, age 79, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. He was born on August 2, 1946, to the union of the late Henry and Dorothy Smith. Calvin proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He deeply valued histime in the military, carrying the discipline, loyalty, and camaraderie of the Navy with him throughout his life. Following his honorable discharge, Calvin continued his commitment to public service by launching a distinguished federal career with the United States Postal Service. He demonstrated unwavering dedication to his community and country, serving in various vital roles within the postal system until his well-deserved retirement in 2021. Outside of his professional life, Calvin had a vibrant spirit; he loved traveling the world, dancing, and enjoying good times with those he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Marion, Joseph Jr., Henry T. Smith Jr., Lionel, Jean, Dorothy, and Yvonne. Calvin leaves to cherish his wonderful memories with his beloved daughter, De Lynne Graves; his cherished grandchildren; and his siblings, Sterling, Bobby (Dorothy), Donna, and Patricia (Ralph). He is also survived by his devoted friends, Constance George (CG) Branch and Inell Tucker, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends. A celebration service honoring the life and legacy of Calvin Smith will be held at New Light Baptist Church, 1435 Feliciana St., New Orleans, LA 70117, on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Visitation will begin at the church at 9:00 AM until the time of service. Rev. Dr. Gregory Davis, pastor officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Drive, Slidell, LA 70460.
